About JANISE WHITE
Janise White, Keyboardist holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (B.M., Piano, Adolph Baller); University of Southern California (M.M., Piano, Daniel Pollack); California State University, Hayward (Choral Credential); and Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma Studies, Frances Walker) and Master classes with Karl Ulrich Schnabel. White first recorded at age 9 after winning first prize in the Musicolorama Competition. At age 17, White won the National Association of Negro Musicians Piano Competition and ranked as semi-finalist in the International Keyboard Artist Competition at age 30. She studied harpsichord with Laurette Goldberg and participated in the Bach Festivals at UC Berkeley as well as played continuo for many choral performances.
White has recorded George Walker's Piano Sonata No. II and William Grant Still's Summerland from Three Visions on CD-ROM for the textbook, "African American Music, A Chronology" by Dr. Hansonia Caldwell (1995) and "Harpsichord Sonatas" by Chevalier de St. Georges performed at the University of the Virgin Islands for the First Biennial Conference on Music and the Arts (2014).
In 1975, White debuted with Dr. Denis de Coteau performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra which was recorded live over classical radio station KKHI. As a recitalist, she has toured the United States, Canada, Virgin Islands, London and Paris. Additionally, she has performed live over KUSC, PBS, KPFK, Channel 2, and Channel 7. She has appeared with conductors John Dennison, Frank Fetta, Leroy Hurte, Kermit Moore, John Schroeder and Michael Morgan.
